Oh my goodness this San Diego micro wedding took place in Deven and Myles’ backyard and it was absolutely magical and so incredibly heartfelt.
In case you’re wondering, a micro wedding is essentially a much smaller scale wedding. These events usually have no more than 50 guests, but most often will be even smaller, more likely around twenty to thirty people total. These differ from elopements just a bit, in that elopements are typically just the couple, an officiant, and the photographer.
Micro weddings can be such an intimate and meaningful way of having a wedding. Since it’s just guests who are super close friends and family, the day is usually very relaxed, light hearted, and often a little more emotional. One thing I love about micro weddings is that the couple always gets to spend ample time with each guest, something that typically doesn’t happen at larger more traditional weddings.
Since micro weddings are a much more laid back event, they typically don’t follow the more traditional checklist of wedding day events (e.g. bouquet toss, garter toss, cake cutting, first dances, etc.). Not into the idea of having a heavily structured reception, but still want a couple wedding traditions that are important to you? Then micro weddings are it! The beauty of planning an event like this is that you really can pick and choose and do whatever you want!
For example, Deven and Myles knew that they wanted to do a cake cutting, but they chose to do it quietly off to the side, rather than have it be a show stopping event in the middle of their reception. They also decided to forgo a “first dance” but instead wanted to do a private last k
Also, I can’t talk about this wedding without talking about how Deven and Myles spent MONTHS transforming the backyard of their home into a beautiful reception space for their wedding. They completely dug up the entire yard and laid down new pavers and grass, they built an enormous pallet wall of succulents, hung up hundreds of light strands, and even redid one of their bathrooms so that it would be ready for guests!
Their beautiful San Diego micro wedding took place in North County in the hills of Vista. Immediately I knew that this was going to be such a beautiful location for their couples photos. The driveway to their home stretches up a long hill with a beautiful orchard like front yard off to the side and gorgeous fruit trees are scattered all over the neighborhood streets. When it came time for their couples photos, we wandered around their front yard and the neighboring streets and found tons of beautiful spots for photo ops (I mean check out their photos in front of the orange trees, omg!!).
Another amazing part of this wedding was how much this couple included their sweet dog Bella! Bella was in Myles’ getting ready room, she was the ring bearer, a part of the first look, and she came in with them during their grand entrance! I love love LOVE when a couple includes their pets in their wedding day. They’re always such a beloved member of the family and it’s so sweet when they get to be a part of the couple’s wedding day!
I loved every aspect of Deven and Myle’s beautiful San Diego micro wedding, and it was such an absolute honor to capture it!!
