Beach Inspired Engagement Session At Sunset Cliffs

Sunset Cliffs has got to be one of the most beautiful locations in San Diego for an engagement session. The area that comprises Sunset Cliffs is just one and a half miles long, but it holds some of the most jaw dropping views in all of the county. With dramatic cliffside formations, hidden caves, and expansive ocean views, this natural park really does have the best sunset viewing around. It’s also absolutely perfect for couples wanting a romantic and adventurous vibe in their engagement photos.

It may sound counterintuitive, but something I love about this spot is actually how many people are drawn to it. Day after day, the cliffs fill with people (particularly around sunset) who want to marvel at its beauty. I just love seeing so many people take time to stop and slow down their lives and enjoy this peaceful place. 

That being said, if you’re wanting to explore the cliffs at a time where you can have a little more space to yourself, sunset will probably not be the best time to go. I highly recommend visiting on a weekday morning. Early. (Like, sunrise kinda early).

For Kaila and Michael’s engagement session, we decided to chance going to Sunset Cliffs at sunset and luckily we were able to find plenty of secluded spots! 

Kaila and Michael used to be our downstairs neighbors at our old apartment, and I’m so freaking glad that they also became such great friends. Oh, and I mean GREAT friends. Like the kind of friends who laugh with you when you accidentally spit take a jello shot onto their halloween costumes…yeah, I may or may not have actually done that, hah!

A couple of years ago, these two met on a blind date that was set up through some mutual friends. They clicked so well that not only did their date last for SIX hours, but they also set up three more dates for that week! And it is so obvious that they have pursued each other in the same way ever since. I LOVED getting to capture their story and I can’t wait to see where life takes them!
