A Sunny and Intimate Wedding at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, CA

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again– Sunset Cliffs has got to be one of San Diego’s most stunningly beautiful locations. With tons of cliffside trails, hidden beaches, and sea caves for the adventurous, this location is an absolute gem on the San Diego coastline. Sunset Cliffs also an amazing spot for an intimate wedding!). Just a quick 15 minute drive from the San Diego downtown area, Sunset Cliffs feels like a world away. Every time I come here (which btw is A TON) it always feels like a peaceful little vacation.

During the morning hours, you can often find a full cliffside all to yourself. With sounds of crashing waves and overcast skies from the marine layer it’s easy to forget that a city of 1.5 million people is just behind you. At sunset…well it’s a bit easier to remember, hah! Coming here at sunset is a a not-so-secret secret spot for locals in San Diego, but man oh man is it worth it even with some crowds. The cliffs turn golden and the sea stretches for miles in an amber blue haze. To sit on the edge of a cliff at this time feels a bit like sitting on the very edge of the world. It’s truly magical.

Some tips on getting married at this location: First, get a permit! This not only is required, but trust me it’s super necessary for you to have the ceremony spot all to yourselves. Second, this is a pretty popular spot (especially in summer) so if your plans allow, I definitely recommend trying to hold your ceremony on a weekday as the crowds will be much thinner and you’ll be more likely to have some privacy. Last but not least, expect your wedding attire to get a little dirty and your hair a little windswept. It’s all part of the experience, so embrace it and enjoy this sweet spot!
