I’ve stayed at this resort for a personal staycation and photographed a mid summer wedding on the property, and it’s honestly one of my absolute favorite spots in all of San Diego!

For panoramic views of San Marcos and the surrounding areas, take a hike to Double Peak Park. The park offers several trails suitable for all fitness levels and is a perfect spot for a group outing. (FYI one of my favorite breweries called Double Peak Brewing, is just down the hill from here!).
San Marcos Farmers Market
Held weekly, the farmers market is a great place to explore local produce, artisan goods, and delicious food. It’s an excellent activity for guests who want some local goodies!
Visit Carlsbad Village
Just a short drive away, Carlsbad Village offers shopping, dining, and beautiful beaches. It’s a great place to spend a relaxing day by the ocean. Bonus tip: the cutest bookstore + coffee shop, Carlsbad Village Books, just opened and it’s a must visit!
Top Gun House
Okay, so if you or any guests have some serious nostalgia over the movie Top Gun, you have to stop at the Top Gun House in Oceanside, about 20 minutes away from the Lakehouse Resort. This home was the actual house used for the movie and has since become a pie shop. It’s located right by the pier, a Michelin star restaurant, a killer rooftop bar, and of course the beach. You really can’t go wrong by making it a pit stop!
A Midsummer Lakehouse Resort Wedding
This couple’s July wedding was the absolute definition of a relaxed, slow moving, easy peasy, summer day. Their main priority was keeping things fun and low stress for their family and friends, and Lakehouse Resort made for the ideal spot for that kind of mood.
They held their ceremony right on the lakeside lawn overlooking the water. It was a brilliantly sunny SoCal day and the weather could not have been more perfect.
Right after the ceremony, the couple surprised their guests with some live music! They planned a mariachi band for cocktail hour out on the patio and it added so much fun to the day! The energy was just incredible. The mariachi music echoed across the lawn while all of their guests drank signature cocktails and mingled, met, and reconnected before the reception.
Sunset Photos
One of my favorite parts of photographing weddings at Lakehouse Resort is golden hour out by the water. Having lived in San Diego for over a decade, I’ve seen Lake San Marcos sunsets dozens of times, and the light coming off the lake truly never gets old. Because the lake is so quiet and tucked away from the rest of North County, taking sunset portraits here always feels like a peaceful little breather for the couple before heading into the reception.
